Splinter

Dim vision makes the impact of light stark

Won’t leave the safety of solitary

He only moves through the tunnels most dark

Concealing the solace of secrecy

You’ll never even know you squared off

You’ll never even know just what you’ve lost

So sharp a weapon yet the blade so soft

Stealth like this comes at a great cost

The lack of sunshine is the lack of growth

Heat and adversity are what we need

Stagnation comes from the absence of both

From sight unseen is just no way to lead

Thinks the only path to straight and narrow

Splinter never emerges from shadow

Splinter goes to great lengths in order to protect the turtles from the world and from themselves. He strongly believes that hiding in the shadows and never even attempting to be accepted by the world is the only safe path. The lack of trying is also the lack of failure. Splinter doesn’t even contemplate punching faces because doing so would require stepping outside and putting the turtles in danger in the first place. Splinter has set up an ethos that can never be proven wrong because it will never allow itself to be tested. Much like his star pupil, Leo, Splinter has restrained himself for the illusion of comfort and the safety of familiarity.
